I have read on some forums where people talk about how temperature affects the playability of some strings.  I am currently using MSV Focus Hex 1.18 as well as Weiss Cannon Explosiv.  If the outside temperature is around the mid 50's compared to the mid 60's, are there any positive or negative characteristics from these strings?

I do not personally buy into the theory that temperature alters the playability of the strings, especially when you are only talking about 50 degrees or higher.

My belief is that temperature more directly impacts the ball.  When it is colder, balls are not as lively as when temperatures are hot.  As a result the play is more sluggish and a bit slower.  Many players compensate for this by adjusting the tension of their strings.  They usually make an adjustment downward in tension to increase dwell time and trajectory of the ball.  This helps to compensate for the balls being cold and not as lively.

In short our opinion is, no...temperature does not impact the playability strings in a significant way.  It can and does, however, influence the performance of the tennis ball.

Well i have these strings on my racquet and my daughters racquet and we play at least 3 times a week.

I strung these myself when it was about 85 degrees farenheit and loved them... and no matter what science said i played thru nov/dec/jan when the temp averaged high 40's to mid 50's and i was about to rip these things out because the ball hits felt absolutely terrible.... like a brick wall..  I thought perhaps it was just time to change them because they were getting old.

My daughter who plays for the high school team started experiencing the same thing... just awkward hits a brick wall feeling...

So the temp last week started creeping back up to mid to high 60's and the strings came back to life... both of us noticed they started feeling better and better in the warmer weather.  The strings started to feel and behave as they first did.

I know it wasn't the balls because many of the balls we played with pressureless practice balls that were stored in my house and even on first use in colder weather on the court the balls felt like rocks on my strings.

So in my opinion and my daughters temperature definitely seemed to affect these particular strings in a major way.
